AGRONOMY INTERN: Jon Simonson

Aurora Cooperative 6 years ago

This summer is off to a fast and exciting start as I began my internship at Aurora Cooperative. I kicked off my internship at the corporate office in Aurora, and there I met some great people who run the company at a very high level, along with other interns who I would be joining during the summer. During training, we learned about the company as a whole, along with all of the tools used to help their growers produce the highest possible yield on their farm. I also learned how to scout a field to determine whether the field needs sprayed, or if there is anything that we could add to the soil that could benefit the crop. It was an exciting first week, but I was ready to get out and meet everyone I would be working with out at my locations.

My locations for the summer are Central City and Dannebrog. There I have been helping scout fields, treat seeds, deliver seeds, and other tasks around the locations. I have been able to get out on our growers’ farms and talk with them about what we are seeing in their fields this year. We have a lot of great farmers in the area. It’s great to see how the people and products at Aurora Cooperative are an addition to their farms.

Being located in Central City and Dannebrog has been a blessing for me because of all the great people that I get to work with on a daily basis. They are hard-working individuals who truly strive to make the most of a grower’s farm. They are also more than willing to work with me to make sure that I get the most out of my internship.

Just last week, I got the opportunity to attend the National Kickoff Conference in Grand Island at the Aurora Cooperative Pavilion. There I got to listen to the King of Sales, Jeffrey Gitomer. This was a very positive resource as I look at possibly going into sales career. It was an unforgettable experience to see the Aurora Cooperative team come together and learn.

I am excited to see what the rest of the summer has in store for me and how I can help the growers in the future. A great part of working at Aurora Cooperative is that each day is different, keeping me on my toes. I have really enjoyed my experience so far and I’m excited to see what will come next.
