Hello everyone, my name is Matt Jurgensmier and I am an agronomy sales intern out of the Aurora Agronomy location. This is my second summer as an intern. Last year I was out of the Wood River location. I will be a senior in the fall at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, majoring in agronomy with a minor in ag business. I am originally from Grand Island, Nebraska where I graduated from Grand Island Senior high school. I was involved in playing football, basketball, running track, and playing legion baseball in the summer.
This summer has been nothing but nonstop from the start. My mentor, Drew Buettner, has had me out with him meeting with growers and learning how to make sure customers are treated the right way all the time. We have also done a lot of field scouting for weeds, stand counts, and now the start of insects as they are emerging fast. Another thing we have done is weekly tissue sampling for one of his customers to be able to look at nutrient levels in the plant as the growing year continues. Something that has really helped my experience this summer is learning how to soil sample and really what the importance of it is. This is something I haven’t done before personally but knew it was important so I’m glad that I was able to experience it.
It has been great to be back with Aurora Cooperative this summer and I am excited to keep learning new things every day.
