Hello everyone, my name is Ainsley Fischer, and I am one of the Allied Nutrition interns based out the Wray, CO location. I will be a senior at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln majoring in Animal Science, where I also compete on the livestock judging team. Prior to UNL, I attended Northeastern Junior College where I received my associate degree in animal science and competed on the livestock judging team there as well. I grew up in Franktown, CO where my sister and I both showed sheep in 4H, which led to us starting a small club lamb flock.
I have grown up around agriculture my whole life, but my passion grew when my family moved out to our farm from a neighborhood 11 years ago! Ever since then, I wanted to pursue a career in the livestock industry. During my time here in Wray, I have learned different aspects of the cooperative, including the agronomy side and meeting with different growers evaluating their fields. One of my favorite parts of my internship is interacting with customers. I have been fortunate to introduce some show feed to a family who was looking to change how they feed their show steers. So far, they have liked our show feed and I will be delivering more feed to them this week. It has been super exciting to see people who like our product and are continuing to use more.
This week I will be gearing up and heading to meet with Dr. Folmer and attend Angus Junior Nationals. We just wrapped up Maine and Chi Junior Nationals this past week, where Allied Nutrition is the official feed store for both Angus and Maine-Chi Junior Nationals along with the Nebraska State Fair. It was fun to meet up with the other Allied interns and see what they are doing and talk to the customers who buy and use our show feed. While we were there the new Allied Show feed bags were delivered. I am excited to get a couple of the new show feed bags out in Wray!
At the end of Junior Nationals, I will be setting up time to meet with other members of the Allied team so I can learn more about animal nutrition. My goal of meeting other members is to learn more about nutrition and what it looks like in their region. I hope to bring back new knowledge to Wray, CO to help Allied Nutrition move west and to gain more customers in this location. During the remainder of my internship, I plan to contact other producers in my area to talk about their nutrition program and if they would be interested in Allied products.
I look forward to learning more about Allied Nutrition and what Aurora Cooperative has to offer. I want to thank everyone at Aurora Coop who has been supportive of me during my internship and helping me have a successful summer!
