Hello everyone, my name is Kolby Wessels, and this is my first year as a millwright intern with Aurora COOP, however, I have worked here for the past seven summers. I am based out of Aurora, working underneath Nate Panko, Karl Keller, and Trenton Kluck. I am a senior at the University of Nebraska Lincoln majoring in ag business with a minor in agronomy. Coming into the internship this summer I knew what was expected and knew that I was going to be able to come right back in like I never left.
So far, we have been off to a great start to the summer running around and getting a lot of different projects knocked out. I am currently working on one of my two projects that I am doing for the summer. Thursday, June 15th, we took down the old scalper and flew up the new one. As easy as it sounds there were a lot of hours that went into this project to make sure everything was ready to be put together. Putting in all the hours in this project has been exciting watching it get closer and closer to being done. Now that it is up, we must clean up some spouts and everything will be ready to roll for many more years.
Being a millwright for Aurora COOP is a lot of fun because we are never doing the same thing. There is always a different location throughout the company needing something repaired or replaced. We have a great crew that all work together very well that put their heads down and get the work done that needs to get done no matter the circumstances.
I am most excited to continue to get out there and gain knowledge from my mentors along with creating stronger relationships with the employees of the company. I am excited to see what the rest of the summer will bring!
