AERIAL: Ben Jones

Aurora Cooperative 2 years ago

I started loading spray planes when I was 12 years old. My parents had our family business until we sold it to Aurora Cooperative. I started working here as a young kid doing every job possible and now things come naturally to me. I have been working with the same group of people for many years. We have all become like a family, so it makes it really fun and almost is like you’re working with your brothers. We get a lot of work done and we have fun doing it.

I manage our aerial division which includes ordering parts, making the crop recommendations, writing up the paperwork for aerial seeding, and whatever else needs to be done. Everyone around here wears many hats, and we all do whatever needs to be done for our owners.

I take pride in the fact that we cover a lot of area here in Colorado, going 60 miles in every direction, sometimes exceeding that. We have a lot of customers and with aerial we know it’s important to get the work done in a timely fashion. With our fleet we can cover a lot of ground and do a quality job for our growers. We believe we have the best service around because of our fertilizer plant, airplanes, and crew. We have a team that truly cares about our growers and doing a good job for them, instead of just punching in the clock.

All of our pilots are local so they all live in Wray. This is valuable because of the personal connections and relationships they have with the growers. We strive to build great relationships with our customers. It’s rewarding to know our growers on a more personal level because it creates accountability on our part which makes us work even harder for them.

What I like most about my job is working with the growers and the relationships that come with that. It makes my chosen career more rewarding. It is exciting to see them be successful and make their farms more profitable each year. Everything I do comes back to helping each grower get the best yield they can. We have created really strong relationships with our growers and will continue to positively do so. When they do well, we do well, and that is what it is all about. We want to help them succeed in all aspects.

I believe that relationships with our owners is everything. When our growers trust in us to provide quality recommendations with timely services that is the best compliment we can ask for.
