Meet the POSS FAMILY from Poss Angus, a family-owned, first-generation Angus seed stock business that is located near Scotia, Nebraska and is operated by Danny and Kristi Poss and their four children: Nolan (23), Nathan (21), Neleigh (17), and Natalie (15). They have been working with Aurora Cooperative since the early 1990s.

“Aurora Cooperative knows how to get things done,” Danny said. “They have always provided us with excellent service and the relationships we have built keep us coming back year after year.”

The motto on the Poss operation is ‘Leading Edge Genetics’ and their main priority is their Angus cattle.

The first Friday of February is their annual bull sale where they sell about 200 bulls and an additional 50 bulls privately. They also hold a female sale in November which draws buyers from all over the United States. Their bulls have an even wider reach and are sold around the United States, Canada, Brazil, Russia, and semen is even shipped to Australia, Brazil, and South America. They also raise corn, soybeans, alfalfa, and hay as they grow most of their own feed.

Admittedly, running an operation such as this is a huge time commitment, but they love what they do. Danny said it is so rewarding to have the family members involved with everyone working together to reach their goals.

“We do our best to maintain a good work/family time balance,” he added. “It is important for us to prioritize our family life first, but we really have to plan ahead. When we need to leave early for a ballgame or something, we work late the day before, or we start earlier and work until we get the job done.”

Danny said he is proud of what his family has accomplished together so far.

“I enjoy the new genetics each year, the new customers we meet, and all the people we are able to network with along the way,” he added. “We are fortunate to work with many of the same people year after year and they have become our good friends. I look forward to continuing to build on the success we have had and continue to build good relationships and keep improving our genetics for our customers.”
