Agronomy Sales & Operations Intern
Hello, my name is Blake Beiber. I am currently attending Doane University in Crete, Nebraska, and I am going to be a senior this coming year with a major in agribusiness. I am involved in the Ag Club and am also on the football team at Doane. This summer, I am an Agronomy Sales intern under Josh Carson and Jacob Sloup at the York location.
I was raised in St. Libory, Nebraska where I was around farming and ranching all my life. I was interested in agriculture from a young age but recently started pursuing a career within the industry in my three years at Doane. Agronomy caught my interest after I took a class about it and began scouting fields last summer.
I am at Aurora Cooperative for many reasons, but the main reason is the ample amount of opportunity within the company. Just being around the area, I have heard lots of things about the cooperative, and all of them have been good. I know a few people that have worked or are currently working with the cooperative, and they have always had great things to say about not only the company but the people as well. Hearing these great things made the decision to apply for the internship program an easy one.
This summer, my goal was to work on my understanding of agricultural chemicals. I began my journey during the post-emergence herbicide season, and I’ve gained significant knowledge about the specific applications and limitations of various chemicals. I have started learning what chemicals have a positive reaction with each other and which ones have a negative reaction. The York location does a lot with animal nutrition, so I have also learned a lot about what goes into feeding different livestock whether it is a show animal or just feeding them on an operation. Now we are getting into aerial application season, and I am starting to learn more about fungicides and insecticides. I am very thankful for this experience and am looking forward to the rest of the summer.
