Marketing & Communications Intern
Hello! My name is Brielle Hamer. I am currently attending Central Community College in Hastings, NE for Media Arts-Graphic Design and will be graduating in December of this year. This is my second summer with Aurora Cooperative in the Marketing and Communications Department at the corporate office in Aurora. I directly report to Tessa Burgener, but I have had the opportunity to work closely with Maggie Preissler and Kim Reynolds.
I grew up in Central City which is a short 20-minute drive from Aurora. I job shadowed Tessa in the summer of 2022 and did a work study with Maggie in the fall/winter of 2022 which ultimately led me to joining the internship program.
Last summer, I spent most of my time learning the agronomic side of Aurora Cooperative as well as building my design skills as I had just graduated high school. I had an amazing experience learning the ropes last year, and I was super excited to come back this summer and apply the knowledge I have learned at school the past year.
This summer, I got started right away with a giveaway project on day one. Since then, I have been working on developing a brand guide to have all our brand information in one place. On top of that, I have made a few advertisements, which has led to a big project redesigning our print advertisements. I have been working with Maggie and Kim on some recruitment material, and I spent a day with Jeremy Sheldon on our Energy team to learn some jobs involved in that department. Another big project I am working on is coordinating the information and designs to wrap all Aurora Cooperative fuel stations and A-Stops.
It is hard to describe a typical day for me as the projects and ideas I am working on are constantly changing. Whether I am in a one-on-one with Tessa, a professional development training with the interns, or spending the day with my computer, I am always busy and grateful for the knowledge I am gaining this summer.
This summer has already been more than I could ever ask for, and we’re only a month in! I have already done so many projects this summer, and I am looking forward to many more!
