2024 Summer Intern: Jaylea Pope

Marketing & Communications Intern

Hello, I am Jaylea Pope! I grew up just north of Shelton, Nebraska on my family’s cow-calf and seedstock operation. I grew up showing cattle, pigs, sheep, and goats with my siblings in 4-H and FFA. I also enjoyed competing in a variety of competitive events and contests. Now, I will be a junior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the fall majoring in agriculture communications and animal science with a minor in the Beef Industry Scholars Program.

This summer, I have had the opportunity to work with the marketing and communications team in Aurora! Maggie Preissler is my primary mentor, but I also have the privilege to work with the other team members, Tessa and Kim. One unique attribute of the marketing internship is we get to be involved with almost all the different segments that make up Aurora Cooperative.

My main project is working with the Prairie Valley Seed team to conduct market research and begin building a marketing plan. I’m also collaborating with the Allied Nutrition team to help promote their new products and update their website. Additionally, I work with the grain team to put out their new podcast, Elevate Grain. Finally, the energy team is setting up events to collaborate with FFA chapters for the Fueling Your Community Event, and I get to work with our other marketing intern, Brielle, to plan out a home heating campaign.

With all these fun projects running simultaneously, it can be hard to say just what a day-to-day schedule looks like. I may be calling team members in different departments to discuss information they want to promote or setting up media shoots for the month. Looking ahead, I am excited to watch all these projects unfold and grow as well as what skills I will learn as I go! We hit the ground running at the beginning of the summer, and I appreciate just how fast paced this has been. I know that I will never be bored with the variety of tasks we get to accomplish. Overall, this has been a very enjoyable experience, and I look forward to what the rest of the summer brings!
