Precision Agronomy Intern
Hi all, my name is Molly Carraher, and I am an intern with the Owners Acres team this summer. I just completed my junior year at Wayne State College majoring in Agribusiness. I grew up in the ag industry as my family has a cow/calf and row crop operation along with a hay grinding business. That said, this is my third summer interning with Aurora Coop, and I am excited for the experiences and knowledge that are ahead of me.
The internship program just got up and running again for the summer a couple weeks ago, and I have already gotten to dive into many of the daily tasks that take place at Owners Acres. Right from the start, I got set up with all the technology that is used to make Owners Acres work as efficiently as it does. I am eager to learn how they all work and what they provide to the operation. I was also able to sit in on a couple of meetings discussing new ideas and products on the precision ag side of things. And last, but certainly not least, we got out in the fields both in Aurora and Central City. We finished up a flag test, took stand counts, and staked different hybrids and treatment trials on the Owners Acres fields.
As most of you know, Owners Acres encompasses precision ag management as well as the research side of agronomy at Aurora – all by putting their practices into action and farming themselves. I am excited to take part in all the steps throughout this summer and see the end result in the fall. I have only been here a couple of weeks, but I have already been exposed to new ideas, technology, and resources and I am excited to continue to do so!
