Agronomy Sales & Operations Intern
Hi, my name is Wade Ohlson. I am currently attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where I’m a sophomore studying ag business. This summer I’m interning with the agronomy team in Aurora under Beau Simmons and Jeremy Hope.
I chose Aurora Cooperative because growing up in Aurora, they have always had a huge presence in our community. I knew doing an internship here would help me open doors to different opportunities now and in the future. I grew up on a farm 2 miles east of Aurora which is where my interest in the ag industry began. Growing up around agriculture and driving around with my dad checking fields is what got me to my current position.
So far this summer, we have done a lot of scouting in customers’ fields and in multiple test plots. We have also talked to numerous farmers, giving them recommendations for their fields and providing knowledge to them about new and upcoming products. Tissue samples have been collected and sent into a lab every week, and I think the results are interesting to look at and compare different products side-by-side.
I have gained a lot of new skills by being out in the field. I’ve learned more in the last couple of weeks than I have in college so far, which is crazy. I am looking forward to my final project along with seeing how test plots progress throughout the year, and simply making more connections while outside the office. I am thankful for this opportunity that Aurora Cooperative has given me. It has been a unique experience because there is a lot more to agriculture than what meets the eye. I appreciate everyone who has volunteered their time to help me learn and find out what I may want to do in my future.
