Software Development Intern
Hi, I’m Dane Faber, a junior Computer Science major at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. I’m originally from Aurora, Nebraska, where I first got into I.T. through an internship with Logic Nebraska. At school, I’m involved with Nullify, UNO’s cybersecurity student group. This summer, I am interning as a software development intern at Aurora Cooperative in Omaha with Sara May as my mentor.
My experience working in agriculture started when I was in 8th grade working on a farm just outside of Aurora. I helped with daily chores such as feeding livestock, maintaining equipment, and learning a lot about the industry. The summer after graduating high school, I worked at Real Farm Research where I was able to continue to learn about agricultural practices.
While I’m not directly pursuing a career in agriculture, I draw on my background to support my work as a software development intern at Aurora Cooperative. During my summer so far, I have been able to work alongside other developers and gain firsthand experience building and working on software such as Granger, the cooperative’s in-house accounting and management system. My workday often includes reviewing and responding to tickets or feature requests submitted by employees across different departments. These tasks range from fixing simple bugs and improving functionality to adding all new functionality based on the employees’ requests.

Through my internship here at Aurora Coop, I’ve gained confidence to contribute ideas, ask questions, and work alongside a professional team. This experience has helped me improve my technical skills and grow as a professional. I am especially grateful to my mentor and the team that I work with who have been patient and helped make this a great learning experience.
