2025 Summer Intern: Houston Frank

Operations Intern

I’m Houston Frank and I’m from Scott City, Ks. I’m a sophomore at Fort Hays State University majoring in Ag Business with a minor in leadership. This summer I am doing an operations internship with my mentor Kyle Rust at the Geneva location.

In Kansas, I grew up on our family farm and custom harvesting crew. I have been operating tractors, combines, and other heavy machinery from a young age which is what gave me an interest in this internship. One day I hope to take over our family farm.

So far this summer, I have assisted in loading chemicals and getting them to the field and into the sprayer. Most days are not the same as the last, you never know what you’ll be doing each day. Most of it depends on the weather but also on the demands of the co-op and the customers that we serve.

I have gained a good deal of knowledge about chemicals and how they affect different crops and weeds and how to prepare a proper chemical mix to spray for certain types of crops. I am looking forward to learning more about chemicals and being able to apply it on my family’s farm. One thing I’m grateful for is having a great group of guys to work with every day. So far, I have had a great time and am looking forward to learning more!
