2025 Summer Interns: Madison Hunter

Accounting Intern

My name is Madison Hunter, and I am from Aurora, Nebraska. I recently graduated cum laude from Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in both accounting and economics. I am now continuing my education at K-State to pursue a Master of Accountancy while working towards my CPA license. This summer marks my second internship in the accounting department with Ben McQuiston in Aurora.

I chose to return to Aurora Cooperative because, out of the internships I have had throughout college, Aurora Coop has been exceptional in its intern program, truly investing in its interns’ success. I genuinely look forward to going to work each day and what I might learn. While I was not raised on a farm, growing up in Aurora has given me glimpses into the inner workings of the agriculture industry. During my time with Aurora Cooperative, I have had the opportunity to significantly expand what little knowledge I previously had about agriculture, and I continue to learn something new every day.

Even though this summer’s internship has only just begun, I have already helped with a variety of tasks including managing fixed assets, summarizing financial statements, closing energy contracts, and reconciling accounts. My day-to-day schedule varies depending on assigned projects but currently, my focus is on month-end procedures, such as margin analysis.

In just this short period of time, I have had the opportunity to build on what I learned last summer while also exploring new segments of the company that I had not previously worked with. I look forward to networking with the new intern class and strengthening the relationships I built last summer. I am incredibly grateful to everyone who has invested their time and energy into helping me grow and succeed at Aurora Cooperative. With that, I am proud to share that I have accepted a full-time position at Aurora Cooperative, beginning in the summer of 2026!
