Aurora Cooperative Donates Over $30,000 to Area Senior Centers

[AURORA, NE, August 12, 2024] –  Aurora Cooperative is proud to announce a generous donation of $33,500 to support local senior citizen centers in our footprint. This contribution emphasizes our commitment to giving back to the communities that have supported us for so many years.

The funds were raised through a silent auction held during the Aurora Cooperative Summit and Annual Meeting. Aurora Cooperative matched the funds raised and allocated the dollars to communities based on the locations of the customers who purchased silent auction items. The funds raised will provide much-needed resources for programs and services that enhance the quality of life for our senior citizens. These centers play a crucial role in offering social, nutritional, and health-related services to our elderly population, ensuring they remain active and engaged members of our community.

Chris Decker, CEO of Aurora Cooperative, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative: “At Aurora Cooperative, we believe in the importance of supporting all members of our community, especially our seniors who have contributed so much over the years. This donation is a small token of our appreciation and commitment to their well-being.”

The senior centers receiving the donations include:

  • Aurora Senior Center, Aurora
  • Grand Island Generation Center, Grand Island
  • Doniphan Senior Center, Doniphan
  • Golden Friendship Center, Hastings
  • Merrick County Senior Services, Central City
  • Wood River Senior Center, Wood River
  • Peterson Senior Activity Center, Kearney
  • Hebron Senior Center, Hebron
  • Deschler Senior Center, Deshler
  • Neligh Senior Citizens Program, Neligh

These funds will be used to enhance various programs, including meal services, transportation, health and wellness activities, and social events. The goal is to ensure that our senior citizens have access to the resources they need to lead fulfilling and healthy lives.

Carla Frase, Executive Director of Blue Rivers Area on Aging (Deshler and Hebron), shared her gratitude: “Our goal is to help vulnerable citizens in our communities to remain safe and independent in their homes for as long as possible. This goal would not be attainable without the generous support of businesses like Aurora Cooperative.”

Aurora Cooperative has a long-standing tradition of community involvement and support. This donation is part of our ongoing efforts to give back to the communities where our members and employees live and work.
